Different Energy Sources

Different Energy Sources

We require various energy sources to work and live. They include wind, solar and geothermal as well as biomass sources. These sources aren’t only the primary source of electricity, but they can also be used to heat and transport. The biggest issue with these energy sources is that they can cause greenhouse gas emissions when used to generate electricity. This creates a need for more sustainable energy sources.

The most common type of energy is fossil fuels, comprised of coal, oil, and natural gas. They were formed millions of year ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were buried under layers of sedimentary rocks. If the conditions were right the fossil fuels gradually transformed into carbon-rich substances that, when burnt create energy. The fossil fuels cannot be renewable because they will become depleted by the time we reach our age or in a number of years.

Renewable energy sources, on the other hand are constantly replenished. The most important renewable energy source is sunlight, which provides light and heat. We use it for our homes vehicles, businesses, and homes. Wind is another renewable energy source, which generates electricity through spinning turbines. We have been using it since the first began to harness the wind for millennia. In the end, we employ biological processes to make alcohol (a clear alcohol that can be used to create fuel) from waste and crop residues.

Of all these sources, hydropower is the largest renewable energy source in the United States, though wind and biofuels are expected to be the next to take over. Hydropower utilizes the natural water cycle to harness water’s rapid flow, which is used to produce electricity.
