Technology has become a major part of the global business. Every business employs various IT tools and software to run their business. These programs and tools help companies to cut cost of operations by automating certain of their tasks. They also assist in improving the security and confidentiality of their data. Furthermore, these programs assist companies to save money they could otherwise invest in hiring additional employees. These companies can invest the money they would have spent hiring more employees in other areas, such as marketing, cyber security and employee renewal programs.

The role of IT in the future will shift rapidly as digital technology disintermediates various processes within MNEs. They also reposition them to deliver value to their customers by shifting expenses and activities away from themselves, and toward complementors, partners and consumers both at home and overseas. This is creating new challenges and opportunities. The issues include the rapid decline of MNEs’ competitive advantages and the emergence of new risk sources. The opportunities include a wider access to markets, greater influence on the market and faster technological innovation.

In the past, IT and business have had a negative relationship. Each side blamed the other when projects were unsuccessful. This was further exacerbated by nature of IT projects that were both complex and expensive to create. Even with a contract that guaranteed the business understood the IT provided it was hard to anticipate what could go wrong. Additionally, the requirements frequently changed during development. The solution was to establish a new form of collaboration between business and IT: a “partnership.” This partnership is based on the notion that both parties must be prepared for failure.
